I really appreciate this article. It must have been fomenting in your mind for months, and took weeks of notes to put together. As a teenager, I wrote many a cringey poem. I threw all my notepads in the bin in my 20s (zero loss to anyone), but might pick up a pen again.

Little tip to those who feel that they can't 'do art': don't try to make art, simply try to make something beautiful. Example: I'm growing a forest. It's a European's habitat after all. It's also worth emphasizing the word 'try'.

You mention avoiding cringe like the plague, and that "subtlety is the watchword for the dissident artist". I agree, but would add one word: 'remember'. People seem to know a lot, but they are forgetful!

BTW, Sabaton is a perfect example of what you're highlighting. I learned about this band from a redditor in work. He's the type of guy who goes in to a pavlovian fit of virtue signalling if I mention Hitler as a joke. Guess the 'dissident right art' slipped under his radar.
